Great piece! I think the 5 principles are a great way to look at justice and fairness in energy transitions not only in Africa, but in every continent, country and city. I see the agency element as a crucial one that receives very limited attention in just transition speeches and even frameworks. Engaging and empowering communities is truly easier said than done...
Have not read it but read about it. I’d say I’m not pro-gas but rather think we should not ex ante ban any tech without fairly weighing the options in different situations. Gas will likely IMO be a pretty small part of Africa’s energy future, but could be important in some countries. Seems wrong to try to take that away (via financing bans which apply to poor countries only) when we would not ban such options for ourselves. The moral case is not for any technology, it’s for treating others like we treat ourselves.
agreed. Many grant applications specifically ban LPG from applying. But isn't it better that people have clean cooking fuel so they don't die from indoor air pollution?

Yes!
What do you think about the bookMoral Case for Fossil Fuels? Seems to be a similar argument.
Let's build gas power in Africa.

Europe: "Gas for me, not for thee."
Bravo!
