Friends, Iβm so excited to share that my latest novel, PURPLE STATE, will be out on July 1st, just in time for your holiday beach read!Β
Iβve grown as sick of the news as everyone else, but at heart, Iβm still a political junkie. Thatβs exactly why I wrote PURPLE STATE as a fun, light romp through our contemporary culture wars and the cynical politics behind them β with a touch of quaint idealism.Β
PURPLE STATE is a quick-paced crime and political thriller about our current moment for American democracy. The story follows Kennedy βKPβ Power over her first four days as press secretary for the rookie governor of Pennsylvania. KP had been a rising cable news star with her own hit show on MSNBC and was in line for a dream job at the White House. But the cynicism of Washington DC and the pressures of 24/7 media spin became too much. So she threw it all away to start over. Back home. Closer to real people. Truer to the ideals that drew her into politics in the first place. And where better than Pennsylvania, birthplace of the constitution and a must-win battleground state? Yet KPβs hopes are soon threatened by scandal, a mysterious dead body, and the surprise return of her estranged war veteran husband. The chaos climaxes when forces from the right, left, and just plain crazy all converge on the Penn State campus. Can KP Power prevent bloodshed? Will she save her dreams to bridge our cultural divides? Can she salvage her marriage?Β
βPennsylvania is Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the west, and Alabama in the middle.β ΒβJames Carville
If this might be your sorta thing too, you can pre-order the book on Amazon Kindle here or wait for the paperback to go live July 1st.Β
If you enjoy PURPLE STATE, please tell your friends and please write a review. Amazon reviews are hugely important for authors these days!
Ok, I know this book is not about energy. But the story is set in energy-rich central Pennsylvania and contains many fascinating (true) nuggets for all you fellow energy nerds:
Shamokin, PA (where KPβs husband Jamie Power went to high school) is the site of the worldβs first church with electric power, built by Thomas Edison in 1883.
Centralia, PA (the hometown of Jamieβs best friend and lovable local cop Mikey Domboski) is where an underground coal mine fire ignited in 1962 and is still burning today!Β
PURPLE STATE is my first domestic thriller and a departure from my international diplomatic thrillers with Judd and Jessica Ryker traipsing across Mali, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Russia, and Nigeria. If you want to check out my previous books, you can find them all here. They are a series (with spoilers), so I recommend starting with The Golden Hour.Β
Enjoy!
